Mega Evolution Checklane Blisters: Every Set's Budget Entry Ranked

The cheapest way into any Mega Evolution booster pack is not the Elite Trainer Box, not the Booster Bundle, and not a single loose pack from secondary market.

It is the checklane blister. One pack, one exclusive promo card, sold at checkout lanes in mass-market stores since the ME series launched. Most collectors walk right past them.

The floor right now sits at $5.65. Every set from ME01 through ME05 has at least one version in stock, with ME06 Delta Reign available on preorder ahead of its November 6 launch.

What a checklane blister actually is

A checklane blister is a single-pack sealed product designed for retail checkout-lane impulse buying. It is a single Pokémon TCG booster pack sealed in a cardboard-and-plastic blister card alongside one exclusive holofoil promo card.

The promo cannot be pulled from any booster pack in the set. It exists only in the blister.

For a budget collector, the math works out cleanly: one ME pack at retail MSRP plus a bonus promo, with no ETB or bundle premium attached. You pay for exactly what you open.

The promo card rule that most buyers miss

None of the Mega Evolution checklane blister promos are the set's featured Mega Pokémon.

ME05 Pitch Black features Mega Lucario, Mega Garchomp, and Mega Sableye as its headliners. The checklane blister promo is Slowpoke, which has no Mega Evolution form in any mainline game.

ME04 Chaos Rising features Mega Charizard and Mega Blastoise. The checklane blister promo is Toxel, a Generation 8 Pokémon introduced in Sword and Shield in 2019, four years after the Mega Evolution concept was introduced in Pokémon X and Y.

This pattern holds across the full series. The promo card is a companion inclusion with no competitive relevance to the set's main characters.

For a collector, that is a neutral fact rather than a negative one. You are not paying a character premium for a promo you might not want, and you are not excluding yourself from the set's actual chase cards.

ME03 Perfect Order: $5.65 floor

ME03 Perfect Order is the cheapest checklane entry in the series right now.

Springer lists the Makuhita-promo version at $5.65. A Meganium-promo version exists from other sellers in the $11 range, so the Makuhita blister is the budget pick if promo character does not matter to you.

ME03 Perfect Order's set headliner is Mega Mewtwo, which means the pack itself is one of the more sought-after in the series for Mewtwo collectors building their physical card arc. Getting a ME03 pack for $5.65 all-in is the most cost-efficient per-pack price in the current catalogue.

ME04 Chaos Rising and ME05 Pitch Black: the series co-floor

ME04 and ME05 sit within a few cents of each other at the floor. ME04 (Chaos Rising) starts at $5.99 with a Toxel promo, and ME05 (Pitch Black) starts at $5.95 with a Slowpoke promo.

$5.99 USD

ME04 Chaos Rising is the set that introduced the first Mega Greninja EX card to English TCG players. A single checklane blister is the lowest possible cost to open one pack from this set at retail without dealing with secondary-market single-pack premiums.

The Slowpoke promo in ME05 is the official Pitch Black checklane promo. Slowpoke is a Water-type introduced in Generation 1, which has nothing to do with the Pitch Black set's Dragon and Dark-type Mega headliners. It is a collector-only bonus with low secondary-market demand, which is exactly right for a budget opener who just wants the booster pack.

The named-promo version at 401 Games (CA$8.95) shows the Slowpoke artwork on the packaging, so you know exactly what blister character you are buying. The MHDEALSPLUS floor at $5.95 USD is the cheapest per-blister price for ME05 in the catalogue.

ME02 Phantasmal Flames: character-locked vs random

ME02 is where the random-vs-character-locked split matters most for buyers.

$8.99 USD

The Whimsicott-promo version at Card Bird Games is $8.99 for a single blister with the specific character art on the packaging. MHDEALSPLUS lists a "random" version that ships as a two-blister pack for $11.95, which comes out to approximately $5.98 per blister.

If you do not care which promo character you receive, the random two-pack is cheaper per unit. If you specifically want the Whimsicott promo, the named single is the pick.

Cottonee is another promo that appears in the ME02 blister lineup. Cottonee and Whimsicott are the Grass/Fairy evolution pair from Generation 5. Neither has a Mega Evolution, which fits the series pattern.

ME01 Mega Evolution Base: the oldest set, highest floor

ME01 is the original English Mega Evolution TCG set, and it carries the highest checklane floor in the series.

Banana Games lists the ME01 Base checklane blister at $13. Springer has a Drifloon-promo version around $18. The gap between ME01 ($13) and the ME03-to-ME05 floor ($5.65) is significant: you are paying a 2.3x premium for the same format across an older set with fewer sellers competing on price.

For pack content, ME01 features the original run of English Mega EX cards including Mega Venusaur EX, Mega Blastoise EX, and Mega Charizard EX. If you are building a complete Mega EX collection and want to open packs rather than buy singles, the ME01 blister at $13 is still the lowest-cost sealed entry point into the set.

ME06 Delta Reign: preorder at $7.95

ME06 Delta Reign launches in English on November 6, 2026. MHDEALSPLUS has the Delta Reign checklane blister on preorder at $7.95.

The ME06 promo card has not been confirmed in public listings yet. Based on the series pattern, it will be a non-Mega companion character rather than a Delta Reign headliner like Mega Rayquaza EX or Mega Salamence EX.

At $7.95, the Delta Reign checklane sits between the ME02 ($8.99 named) and ME03/ME04/ME05 floors. If the series holds its pricing pattern, the ME06 blister will be widely available at retail MSRP near and after launch with no allocation concerns.

The 3-pack blister: more packs, no promo

The 3-pack blister is a separate product format that exists alongside the checklane blister for some ME sets.

ME05 Pitch Black and ME04 Chaos Rising both have 3-pack blister versions, typically with a character art on the packaging (ME05 Binacle, ME04 Charmeleon) and three booster packs rather than one. Prices start around $22. There is no exclusive promo card in the 3-pack format.

The value proposition is different: more packs per purchase, no bonus promo, and a higher cost per unit. For a collector who wants to maximize pack count, the 3-pack blister beats the checklane on volume. For a collector who wants the promo at the lowest possible entry cost, the checklane wins every time.

Which blister to buy

The set matters more than the format.

If your goal is the cheapest single ME pack in the current catalogue, ME03 Perfect Order at $5.65 (Makuhita promo, Springer) is the answer. If you want ME05 specifically for its Sinnoh and Dark-type pull pool, the $5.95 MHDEALSPLUS blister is the floor. If you specifically want a named promo card and do not want the random-draw version, pay the small premium for a character-locked listing.

ME01 commands a floor premium that reflects lower seller competition, not higher pack value. If ME01 is not your target set, there is no reason to pay $13 when ME03–ME05 are available under $6.
