Paradox Rift Build and Battle Box (2023): Contents and MSRP

The Paradox Rift Build and Battle Box contains a 40-card preconstructed deck, four Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet: Paradox Rift booster packs, and one randomized foil promo card. The original MSRP was $14.99, distributed exclusively at local game store prerelease events starting October 20, 2023, two weeks before the set's November 3, 2023 retail launch.

Secondary market prices have settled in the $30.90–$45.00 range as of October 2026. That works out to roughly $7.75 per Paradox Rift pack, which still undercuts buying individual PAR packs separately at $11.50 each.

What's inside the Paradox Rift Build and Battle Box

ItemQuantityNotes
Paradox Rift booster packs4SV04 English packs, 10 cards each
Preconstructed 40-card deck1Playable SV ruleset deck with Trainer and Energy cards
Randomized foil promo card1One of four: Chi-Yu, Iron Bundle, Xatu, or Aegislash

The promo card is drawn from a pool of four Paradox Rift Pokémon: Chi-Yu, Iron Bundle, Xatu, and Aegislash. Each is a holofoil with a promo stamp. You do not choose which promo you receive; it is randomized at packing, one per box.

One detail that trips up buyers: the 40-card deck draws from a separate card pool than the four included booster packs. It is not a sampling of the main set's pull rates. It is its own fixed, playable structure with Trainer cards, basic Energy, and a mix of Pokémon.

Unlike the Scarlet & Violet Build and Battle Box (2023) and similar earlier prerelease kits, the PAR B&B Box does not include dice, a damage counter kit, or a PTCGO code card. It is streamlined to the three components above.

At its $14.99 MSRP, the B&B Box offered the cheapest per-pack entry point in the entire Paradox Rift lineup. Even at the current $30.90 secondary floor, the box still undercuts buying four individual PAR packs at $11.50 each ($46.00 total), before accounting for the deck and promo.

The $14.99 MSRP was only available at LGS prerelease events between October 20 and November 2, 2023. Serebii's Paradox Rift card index confirms the set launched at retail on November 3, 2023. The B&B Box was never sold at mass-market retailers like Target or Walmart at MSRP.

That channel exclusivity is why the secondary market floor sits at roughly double the launch price today.

Build and Battle Stadium8 (2 B&B kits) + 3 extra2 decks, 2 promos, Energy, accessories$67.90$6.17
Elite Trainer Box (Roaring Moon / Iron Valiant)965 sleeves, dice, coins, energy, binder$145.00$16.11

The Build and Battle Stadium bundles two B&B Boxes with three additional PAR packs and two-player accessories. At $67.90 it delivers 11 packs at $6.17 each, making it the cheapest per-pack Paradox Rift sealed product on the secondary market today. If you want packs and can spend the extra $37, the Stadium is better math.

The Elite Trainer Box (ETB) is nine packs plus accessories, but secondary market pricing has pushed it above $145. At $16.11 per pack that is a significant premium over either prerelease product. The ETB's sleeves, dice, and card holder add real utility for players, but the cost-per-pack gap is hard to justify for buyers focused on opening packs.

The two-week gap between the prerelease date (October 20) and the retail launch (November 3) is standard for Scarlet & Violet era sets. The B&B Box is only sold during this window at LGS stores; by retail launch, the main-set products take over. This also explains the pricing dynamic: any B&B Box sold after November 2023 is second-hand.

Who the B&B Box is for, and who should skip it

Buy the Paradox Rift Build and Battle Box if you want a sealed Paradox Rift product at the lowest possible entry price, or if you are buying for a player who wants a ready-to-use 40-card deck alongside a few booster packs to open.

The promo card is a bonus, not the primary draw. Collectors chasing a specific promo variant should know they cannot choose which of the four they receive. If the promo matters, the B&B Stadium is two bites at the pool for roughly twice the price.

Skip the B&B Box if your goal is maximum pack count. The Obsidian Flames Build and Battle Box offers the same structure for SV03 at similar prices, and newer sets like Temporal Forces and Stellar Crown have B&B Boxes with deeper stock at comparable floors. For the same budget spent on a single B&B Box, multiple Paradox Rift individual packs at $11.50 each means you are looking at three packs versus the four in the box plus a deck and promo, so the box still wins on raw value.

Use the 40-card deck

The preconstructed deck is playable at Kitchen Table and standard organized play. It follows the full Scarlet & Violet ruleset, including ex Pokémon mechanics introduced in the SV era. New players who grab this box at a prerelease can walk straight into a casual match with the deck after opening the four packs.
