Celebrations vs Crown Zenith: Which to Buy (2026)
By Dexhaul Team · October 9, 2026 · 6 min read
Buy Celebrations if the 25th anniversary Classic Collection reprints, including the Base Set Charizard, Flying Pikachu VMAX, and Surfing Pikachu VMAX, are what you are actually buying. Buy Crown Zenith if you want a larger card pool, a dedicated 70-card Galarian Gallery sub-set, and a lower sealed entry price in 2026.
Both sets are out of print, and neither has a standard booster box. The price difference between their ETBs is roughly $60 as of October 2026, with Celebrations commanding the premium. Understanding why that gap exists is the whole comparison.

What Makes Celebrations Different
Celebrations is not a standard set. Released on October 8, 2021 to mark Pokémon's 25th anniversary, it has a 50-card pool split into two distinct halves: 25 main-set cards and a 25-card Classic Collection subset that reprints iconic cards from the original 1998 Base Set through the modern Sword & Shield era.
The Classic Collection is the reason collectors pay $393 for a sealed ETB that launched at $44.99. It contains reprints of the Base Set Charizard, Ancient Mew, Shining Magikarp, and a handful of tournament-defining trainer cards. Those reprints exist nowhere else in the modern print era.
There is no reprint path: once sealed stock of Celebrations is gone, it is gone. That one-way supply dynamic is what the price premium reflects.
Celebrations packs contain only 4 cards each, not the standard 10. The Celebrations ETB includes 10 Celebrations packs, which yields just 40 Celebrations cards. The box also bundles 5 Sword & Shield era booster packs at 10 cards each.
Those 5 companion packs contribute 50 cards numerically, so they actually dominate the box's total card count. Buyers who want maximum Celebrations exposure should look at the Ultra-Premium Collection, which includes 17 Celebrations packs.
The Collection Boxes (Lance's Charizard V and Dark Sylveon V) are the mid-tier Celebrations option. Each includes 4 Celebrations packs and a foil promotional promo card. At $143–$178 in October 2026, they are the cheaper way into sealed Celebrations product, though 16 Celebrations cards from 4 packs is a limited sample of the 50-card pool.
What Makes Crown Zenith Different
Crown Zenith is the final Sword & Shield expansion, released on January 20, 2023 with set code SWSH12.5. It closed out the entire Sword & Shield era, and it shipped with a structural feature no other SWSH set included: a 70-card Galarian Gallery subset built in.
The Galarian Gallery (numbered GG01/GG70 through GG70/GG70) celebrates Galar's regional forms through full-art illustrations. Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, Galarian Moltres, and Galarian Giratina VSTAR are among the Gallery's most pursued cards.
They pull from Crown Zenith boosters alongside base-set cards, but they use a completely separate numbering system. When searching for Gallery singles, the "GG" prefix is the only reliable way to separate them from base-set variants of the same Pokémon.
Crown Zenith has no standard 36-pack booster box. The set shipped only in Booster Bundles of 6 packs each, ETBs, Collection Tins, and Premium Figure Collections. For buyers who want Crown Zenith packs in volume, that 6-pack ceiling per bundle means a higher effective cost per pack than any set that offered a booster box: there is no box-equivalent format to buy down into.
Price Tiers in October 2026
| Product | Contents | Oct 2026 price |
|---|---|---|
| Celebrations Collection Box (Lance's Charizard V) | 4 Celebrations packs + foil promo | from $143 |
| Crown Zenith Galarian Bird Tin | 2 Crown Zenith packs + Galarian Bird promo | from $130 |
| Crown Zenith Booster Bundle | 6 Crown Zenith packs | from $222 |
| Crown Zenith ETB | 10 Crown Zenith packs + accessories | from $330 |
| Celebrations ETB | 10 Celebrations packs (4-card) + 5 SWSH packs + accessories | from $393 |
| Celebrations Ultra-Premium Collection | 17 Celebrations packs + promos + figures | from $1,325 |
The Crown Zenith Galarian Bird Tins are the cheapest sealed entry into either set: three tins (Galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres) each include 2 boosters and a promo. At $130–$160 per tin, they are also the only format in either set with a promotional card themed around the set's visual identity at that price point.
Which to Buy
The two sets are solving different collecting problems. Choose based on why you are buying.
Buy Celebrations if any of these apply: you collect anniversary releases, you want the Classic Collection reprints (Base Set Charizard, Flying Pikachu VMAX) in a sealed product, or you are buying for someone who grew up with the original 1998 Base Set cards. The $60 premium over Crown Zenith reflects genuine scarcity: those reprints exist nowhere else and no further print run is possible.
Buy Crown Zenith if you want a larger card pool to open, a 70-card Gallery subset to chase, or the lowest cost ETB of the two. It is also the better choice for players who want Sword & Shield era cards to use competitively, since the 229-card pool gives more usable content per pack than Celebrations' 50-card set.
Neither set is the wrong answer. They just serve different buyers at different price points.
FAQ
Which set is cheaper to buy into in 2026?
Crown Zenith has the lower entry price across all formats: the Galarian Bird Tins start from $130, and the ETB starts from $330. Celebrations Collection Boxes start from $143 and the ETB from $393.
Are Celebrations Classic Collection reprints identical to the original cards?
The artwork and card text are reprinted faithfully, but the card backs carry the modern Pokémon TCG back design and the set symbols differ. They are legal-print reprints, not original 1999 pressings: condition grades from PSA and BGC will note the reprint status separately from vintage copies.
Does Crown Zenith have a booster box?
No. Crown Zenith shipped in Booster Bundles of 6 packs each as its highest-volume sealed product. There was no 36-pack booster box at any retail tier, which makes per-pack cost higher than any SWSH set that offered a standard display box.
Can I pull Galarian Gallery cards from Celebrations packs?
No. Galarian Gallery cards only exist in Crown Zenith packs. Celebrations has its own two-part pool: 25 base-set cards and 25 Classic Collection reprints, with no cross-set content from Crown Zenith.
Which set holds more sealed value over time?
Dexhaul does not make investment or value predictions. What is factual: Celebrations has been out of print since October 2021 and Crown Zenith since early 2023, so neither has a reprint path. Sealed prices for both have risen since retail; the exact trajectory depends on collector demand that is impossible to forecast reliably.
