It released on October 22, 2021 as the top-tier product of Pokémon's 25th anniversary Celebrations wave.

One detail worth noting: Celebrations booster packs contain only 4 cards each, not the standard 10. The 17 Celebrations packs deliver 68 Celebrations cards; the 8 Sword and Shield packs deliver 80 standard cards. Total from packs: 148 cards, plus the 4 promo and metal cards.
Most other UPCs in the same era contain 16 standard 10-card packs, yielding 160 pack cards. The Celebrations UPC holds more packs by count but slightly fewer cards from packs in total.

The metal cards: what makes them different
The two metal cards are not standard card stock.
They reproduce Base Set Charizard (004/102) and Base Set Pikachu (058/102) in a gold-colored metal format. The card art, layout, and numbering match the original WotC-era prints exactly, including the original card back design. No booster pack in the Celebrations set or any other release can produce a metal card: they exist only in the UPC.
The Pikachu V Full Art promo (SWSH Promo 145) and Poké Ball Full Art promo (SWSH Promo 146) are also exclusive to this product. The Poké Ball promo is unusual: most promo cards feature a Pokémon, not a Key Item.
Both promos were designed specifically for the 25th anniversary and do not appear in standard booster packs. If you want either promo card, the UPC is the only sealed product that contains them.
MSRP and current market prices
| Price point | Amount (USD) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Original MSRP at launch | Approx. $119.99 | Pokémon press page inaccessible today; figure commonly cited at launch |
| Secondary market low (Oct 12, 2026) | $927.50 | From independent seller listings observed today |
| Secondary market high (Oct 12, 2026) | $1,404.00 | From independent seller listings observed today |
The Celebrations UPC carries a large secondary market premium relative to its original launch price. The box is sealed; every copy on the market contains the same contents. Price differences between sellers reflect margin, condition grading, and seller location rather than differences in what is inside.
How it compares
The two closest comparisons are the Celebrations Elite Trainer Box and the Pokémon 151 Ultra-Premium Collection.
| Product | Packs | Key exclusive | Original MSRP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Celebrations UPC (2021) | 17 + 8 = 25 (4-card Celebrations packs + 10-card SwSh packs) | Metal Charizard and Pikachu, Pikachu V + Poké Ball Full Art promos | Approx. $119.99 |
| Celebrations ETB (2021) | 10 Celebrations + 5 SwSh = 15 total | 65 sleeves, accessories | Approx. $44.99 |
| Pokémon 151 UPC (2023) | 16 standard 10-card packs | Etched metal Mew ex, full-art Mewtwo promo, playmat | $119.99 |
The Celebrations UPC is the only one of the three whose signature item is a pair of commemorative cards rather than a single competitive-tier promo. The metal Charizard and metal Pikachu are display pieces, not tournament-legal cards.
That distinction matters. If the draw is competitive play or pack opening, the ETB offers more packs per dollar at current secondary market pricing. If the draw is the metal cards themselves, the UPC is the only sealed source.
Release timeline
| Date | Event | Source |
|---|---|---|
| October 8, 2021 | Celebrations set release (booster packs, ETB, Classic Collection) | Serebii |
| October 22, 2021 | Celebrations UPC release (also Collector Chest and several collection products) | Bulbapedia Celebrations merchandise entry |
The UPC launched two weeks after the main Celebrations wave. The initial launch on October 8 covered ETBs and booster packs; the premium tiers, including the UPC and Collector Chest, followed on October 22.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Buy the Celebrations UPC if the metal cards are the goal. The metal Base Set Charizard and metal Base Set Pikachu do not exist in any other sealed product. They are display items for collectors who want the 25th anniversary commemorative format alongside a set of Celebrations packs.
Skip it if your goal is maximum Celebrations pack opens. At current secondary market prices, the ETB delivers more Celebrations packs per dollar than the UPC. The UPC's value case relies entirely on the exclusivity of the metal cards and promos.
Skip it as a gift if the recipient already owns the metal cards. The packs, coin, and pins alone do not justify the secondary market premium. The Celebrations ETB delivers the same pull experience at a lower price point.
The full UPC lineup across every era is covered in DexHaul's Ultra Premium Collection guide if you want to compare Celebrations against more recent releases.
